Kaiser Doula Coverage: Orange County Labor of Love's Guide to Maternal Health Equity

Starting January 1, 2025, Kaiser Permanente has expanded its doula coverage to include all California members. This initiative aims to address racial health disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes through the use of doulas.

Labor of Love's Kaiser clients have been completely reimbursed for our services over the last 8 months! We are very excited about this support.

Kaiser Doula Coverage Details

Kaiser Permanente's expanded doula coverage includes:

• Eligibility: Available to certain Kaiser Permanente members in California, that have a specific plan. Click here for more information.

• Services Covered:

  • Up to 11 visits per pregnancy, in any combination of prenatal and postpartum visits, for up to 12 months after pregnancy.

  • Support during labor and birth.

  • Emotional and physical support during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

• Accessing Services: Members should contact Kaiser Permanente's Member Services to ensure they have this coverage.

If you have this specific Kaiser coverage, once you hire Labor of Love, we’ll guide you through the entire process. Because this coverage is new—and doula support is still not widely mainstream—Kaiser representatives can sometimes be inconsistent in assisting families. The good news? We’ve spent the past several months navigating this system, and in collaboration with a past client, we’ve created a clear, step-by-step information sheet. Our clients can now easily follow it to receive reimbursement for our services once baby is born.
